Outdoor Funktional Jackets Test – Alpine Proof

Alpine Proof initiates a Functional Jackets Test for Outdoor Extreme

One might could think of some things concerning textile research, but what specifically this work looks like isn’t always well known. Therefore we present a functional jackets test like we run it in our alpine range outdoor laboratory.

Step 1: The Perfect Spot

Weather in polychromelab Alpine Proof textile lab is always freezing, stormy and extreme in winter. Seeing that one unwillingly wants to go outside a mountain lodge, where you can enjoy a majestic view on peaks all around this spot drinking a cup of hot tea. But such days are perfect for testing functional jackets, because over night it will ge cold and windy.

Step 2: What will be tested?

Quivering we run a coldness test. Therefore we perpare two functional jackets made of similar fabrics on dummies. This way we want to detect which fabric performs better at extreme cold. This kind of test are important to improove suitability for coldness in product development processes.

Step 3: Waiting

Soon it’s dark night. Temperatures are low. Sensors we placed inside the functional jackets begin to collect temperature and draught data. But the low point of temperature isn’t reached yet.

Step 4: It’s always wise to bring a sleeping bag

It’s night now. Spotlights make it possible to examine both functional jackets at night. By now temperatures are weigh under 0°C. We’re thrilled to find out which one of these functional fabric responds better to this freezing coldness. Only by running these kind of outdoor tests we can learn what jackets are capable of worn outdoors.

Step 5: Early Bird catches the Worm

Dawn. Night is over and the functional jackets are covered with a thin layer of ice. We start immediately working and sort out measurement data on our laptops. By comparing graphs we can tell which fabric is better and on which places the functional jackets are warmer. This conclusions are worth a mint for product development. This is the only way to improove weak spots of jackets.

News from 2610 meters

We’re very proud about our latest acquirement on 2610 meters: since a few days there’s a bike next to the torsi for  product testing. Now we have the possibility to do research on both human and textile. We will explore how materials that were exposed to alpine conditions for months will interact with workload. Hopefully we’ll get answers to the questions whether the polychromelab materials is working under the most extreme conditions and what we can improve.

Of course everybody who likes to try it out himself is welcome to do some kilometers on the bike in our alpine laboratory next to the Glungezer Hütte.

Fast Donna Running Jacket Test

Running Jacket Test under Alpine Conditions

It’s hard to believe, but it’s only July and the begin of summer in Tyrol. So we’d like to share our little piece of evidence of this Alaska-like weather with you. Here’s a video of a running jacket test while snow is falling and ground is freezing.

Obviously we can’t wait for sunshine either, but it were great conditions for testing our new Fast Donna Running Jacket for women under real alpine conditions. Conclusion: Breathability worked pretty good, warming at its best. See full details on this sports jacket here.

Clemens – We like to share his feeling

Dear Elisabeth and Michele,

Yesterday I took research on some Design and Brand stuff on the internet and on Der Standard I found the article about: polychromelab, a start-up on 2700 meters.

After I was just few moments on your website I couldn’t resist to buy the jacket. Finally, today it arrived! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! That cool like I expected or more like I desired. The size is allright, the fit the same. It’s exactly this way a jacket has to be!

I’m not an extreme hiker and because of that I won’t tell you expedition reports. But this alpine jacket looks much fitter then a regular jacket for urban environment. I’ll wear it for possing at design meetings or perhaps the Alta Quota develops into my everyday clothes.

Nevermind, thanks for this great invention and innovation and I wish you courage and perservance!

Greetings from Vienna,

Clemens Theobert

today it was time to test a new development on the top of tyrol. we had a look how resitant a light fabric is and how the reflection and absorbation capacities are. michele
